Description  A gravy dish made with buttermilk

Ingredients

  • I cup bottle gourd cubed
  • 1/2 cup onions finely chopped
  • 1 and 1/2 tbsp channa dhal
  • 1 and 1/2 tbsp rice
  • 1 tbsp grated coconut
  • 3 green chillies
  • 1 inch piece ginger
  • 2 cups curd made into thick buttermilk
  • 1 tsp mustard seeds
  • 2-3 red chillies
  • 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
  • a few curry leaves
  • salt to taste
  • 1 tbsp oil

 

Method

  • Soak the dhal and rice in water for about an hour.
  • Grind them to a fine paste along with the coconut, chillies and ginger.
  • Mix this paste with the buttermilk. Add salt to taste.
  • Heat the oil in a kadai. Add the mustard seeds, curry leaves and red chillies.
  • Add onions and saute till transparent.
  • Add the bottle gourd and a little water and cook covered till vegetables are done.
  • Add the buttermilk mixtures and simmer for a couple of minutes
