Moong dhal based payasam with rice flour and jaggery made as prasadam
Ingredients
For Talikalu
1 cup rice flour
1 cup hot water
1/2 tsp salt
For Payasam
1cup moong dhal
1and 1/2 cups jaggery
1 cup coconut milk
1/2 tsp cardamon powder
8-10 cashews
1tbsp ghee
Method
To make talikalu
- Dry roast the rice flour in a kadai for a couple of minutes
- Add boiling water and salt and keep mixing till it forms a soft dough
- Knead the dough well
- Dust your palms with a little rice flour.Take a small piece of the dough in your palms and roll it to make thin tubes about 1 inch long and 3mm thick
- Cook these talikalu in water for about 10 mins
To make the payasam
- Mix the jaggery with 2 cups water and cook on slow flame till it forms a thick syrup
- Cook the moong dhal till it is well done
- Strain the jaggery syrup and add it to the cooked dhal
- Add the talikalu to the payasam and cook for sometime
- Fry the cashews in the ghee and add to the payasam along with the cardamon powder
- Add coconut milk and let it simmer for a couple of minutes
 Tips
 Add a little rice flour to the water while cooking the talikalu to prevent them from sticking together
