Description A delicately flavoured lentil and tomato soup which is a part of every south indian meal
Ingredients
3 tbsp thuvar dhal
3 medium tomatoes
1/2 tsp turmeric powder
1/4 rasam powder
5-6 clove garlic crushed
5-6 curry leaves
1/4 tsp mustard seeds
1/4 tsp pepper
1/4 tsp jeera
2 tbsp tamarind paste
1 tsp oil
salt to taste
1 tsp chopped coriander leaves
a pinch of hing
Method
- Boil the thuvar dhal with the turmeric powder and salt with lots of water
- Crush the tomatoes along with the dhal and boil for sometime along with a few pods of garlic and a little chopped coriander leaves
- Grind the pepper and jeera to a coarse powder
- Heat the oil and add the mustard seeds, hing, curry leaves, crushed pepper jeera powder, garlic
- Add this to the dhal and tomato
- Add the tamarind paste and cook for sometime
- Garnish with coriander leaves
