Description A  very popular rice preparation especially for picnics

Ingredients

4 cups cooked rice completely cooled

100 gm tamarind

1 tsp turmeric powder

2 tsp channa dhal

1 tsp mustard seeds

4 – 5 dry red chillies

5-6 curry leaves

A pinch of hing

Salt to taste

2 tbsp oil

Method

  • Soak the tamarind in water for sometime and extract a thick juice
  • Heat the oil and add the mustard seeds, channa dhal, hing and curry leaves
  • When the channa dhal turns a light brown add the red chillies and turmeric powder
  • Add the tamarind juice and allow it to boil till it thickens slightly
  • Add salt to taste
  • Mix this paste with the cooked rice.
