Description A mildly flavoured dhal

Secret Tip Lightly roast the dhal before cooking. You can also add a little hing while cooking the dhal.

Ingredients

  1. 1 cup moong dhal
  2. 1/2 cup onions
  3. 1 cup tomatoes
  4. 2 green chillies
  5. 1 inch piece of ginger cut into jullienes
  6. 1 tsp jeera
  7. 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  8. 1 tsp chilli powder
  9. salt to taste
  10. 2 tsp oil  
  11. 1 tbsp chopped coriander leaves

Method of Preparation

  1. Heat oil in kadai
  2. Add jeera
  3. When jeera splutters, add onions, ginger and green chilies
  4. When onions change colour, add tomatoes, salt, turmeric and chilli powder
  5. Add dhal and saute with vegetables for a minute
  6. Add 1 1/2 cups water.
  7. Pressure cook for two whistles.
  8. Garnish with chopped coriander leaves.
